Welcome to Spokane Tribal TANF Temporary Assistance for Needy Families. We are helping our tribes vision of achieving true sovereignty by attaining self-sufficiency. We have sites in Wellpinit and Spokane where we assist all tribal members who are eligible to use our programs and services. State services are also represented at our sites through a state financial worker for your convenience.
Federally recognized Tribes are eligible to apply directly to Health and Human Services to operate a TANF block grant. Like States, Tribes may use the funding in any manner reasonably calculated to meet the purposes of TANF.
The four purposes of TANF are:
- assisting needy families so that children can be cared for in their own homes;
- reducing the dependency of needy parents by promoting job preparation, work and marriage;
- preventing out-of-wedlock pregnancies;
- and encouraging the formation and maintenance of two-parent families.
By visiting our website often you will learn about services, programs and classes that will help you and your family become self-sufficient in the future while honoring the past life-ways of our ancestors.
